The magic of composition
From idea to song
On this page we share songs that are not (yet) available online. These are demos, sometimes not even finished. This gives insight into our musical library which keeps on growing. Our composition process is a personal journey, where emotions are transformed into melodies. We explore the musical universe without any professional help. It is all made at home with rather simple equipment. Alissa gets an idea and starts recording the first notes whether its on guitar, bass or with midi sounds on the computer. Over time more instruments are added and recorded.
The songs are built in layers and parts, which gives us time to think about the final directions. When Alissa’s work is mostly done, it is time to set up and record the acoustic drum kit with Youri. After the whole rhythm section is recorded, the backtrack is finalised. Now the song really takes shape. To complete the song, the vocal process begins. Strong harmonies and lyrics help to elevate the song to the next level. Often, many ideas about the lyrics are already floating around. At this stage, the title of the song is also agreed upon. Finally, we use our international friends to play guitar solos or instruments we don’t master. After transitioning from the idea to the recorded song, the post-production phase begins. This includes mixing, editing and mastering. This is also done by ourselves at home whenever we have time. There is never a hurry or a deadline, just the fun of making music.
Crafting the sound
Every note and every word is a fundamental part of our musical story. They have been chosen wisely. Our creative process is a constant exploration of new sounds and practising our instruments. We use traditional instruments accompanied by the use of digital tools. With this digital part, we can create more sound layers such as: violins, synthesizers and brasswork. No sound is the same. To craft the sound of our instruments, patience is needed. Sometimes it requires a different approach for a different song. It can take a while to find the right tones and colours. We sculpt each layer of sound, ensuring it always serves the emotion and groove of the song. We don’t stick to a single style, we go from modern hard rock to classical and back. It is fun to experiment and learn about your own capabilities. We feel as if music is a timeless award you should be proud of. And we are! After recording we can endlessly enjoy our songs by playing along to our own files. This is our way of jamming and practising. The more you play the song, to more you learn about it.
